Jaime "Jimmy" Portillo was born and raised in El Paso, Texas, and is a comic book writer / historian / creator who self-publishes under his label, Jimmy Daze Comics. His work includes Gabriel, The Railroad Killer, and Hell Paso: The Story of Dallas Stoudenmire.
Gabriel received a prestigious grant from the Xeric Foundation in 2007. Hell Paso received a grant from the Wild West History Association in 2010 and a Southwest Book Award from the Border Regional Library Association in 2014.
His titles received a number of positive reviews ranging from Ain’t It Cool News to Famous Monsters of Filmland. Media outlets have also covered his books, including El Paso news stations and papers, the Associated Press, and the Wild West Magazine.
Portillo appeared in American Lawmen's, Dallas Stoudenmire: The Hero of Hell Paso. The series was produced by Cineflix Media and aired on the American Heroes Channel.
He was commissioned by the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy to write an official comic book for Alcatraz titled, "Escape from Alcatraz: Back from the Dead," now available.
Dr. Frederick Luis Aldama highlighted Portillo’s work in Multicultural Comics: From Zap to Blue Beetle and Latinx Comic Book Storytelling: An Odyssey by Interview.
Portillo earned a B.A. and M.A. in History from the University of Texas at El Paso.
Portillo is married to Maribel and they have two beautiful huskies named Luke and Leia. They currently live in South Korea.
